William Shakespeare Sonnets

I love the form of Sonnets past…

As mentioned in Why I Write, I love Sonnets. Not just those from William Shakespeare, but generally. However, I have not attempted to write one for many years! I think the age of 140 keeps me in forms simpler like the Haiku. thinking constrained / syllables of five, seven / you require more #Haiku So please indulge me, my first Sonnet since Moby Dick was a Guppie. It fails the test of Meter pure… Was trying to get the volta to be at the end, which I did. :)

Please feel free to offer encouragement, advice, examples of what you’ve done. I also get conflicted and want to write in olde english, probably not a good idea, so help me with that too! Attempt 0 below…

Sonnet 0 | Waiting

We range from quotes of ancient Greek
song fragments coursing through our veins
to the Master Bard at his peak
all singing in our fevered brains

Winston Churchill used as resolve
While U2 ambiguities
in our hearts and souls revolve
we call upon all deities

To save us from our unknown fate
While time fly’s and crawls so slow
we fast approach our fateful date
anticipation’s seethe and grow

But darling, all of this I do not care
I simply want to hold you, smell your hair
